Adding Videos to your JW Player Library
JW Player makes it easy to quickly add content to your library from the dashboard. This article will walk through uploading content from your computer and adding external video URLs. Just getting started? Read our article about Preparing Videos for Upload for more information
Uploading Videos to JW Platform
Start the upload process by clicking the Upload Video button at the top of the content list page in the dashboard.
Select your file(s) from the browser's filepicker. It's easy to upload multiple files. Simply select as many files in the filepicker as you'd like to upload. Alternatively, you can drag and drop one or more video files directly onto this page to quickly upload.
As we process your uploads, you will see a status bar appear at the bottom of your browser window.
Click the blue Details button in this status bar to view the progress of your individual upload(s).
Use the details modal to pause or cancel any or all of your uploads.
Tip: Do not close your browser while video upload is in progress--that will cancel the upload(s)!
Once you've added media to your library, the next step is to embed and publish your video.
Adding External URLs
JW Player's dashboard also accepts URLs from externally-hosted sources. These can be added into your library and referenced in the same way as uploaded content. External URLs do not count towards your monthly storage or streamling limits, but they are counted as part of monthly play counts.
To add external URLs to your content library, click the Add Video URL button at the top of the content list page in the dashboard.
Paste up to 100 video URLs at a time to add them to your library.
Be sure to update each video to include Title and Description.
Note: Adding a URL does not ingest that video into our storage system. It is only a reference to the content that is hosted elsewhere. Once you've added media to your library, the next step is to embed and publish your video.
What video formats can I upload to JW Platform?Formats supported by JW Platform include nearly any audio or video file types. This includes video in MP4, MOV, FLV, MPG, AVI and DV format, or audio in MP3, AAC, WAV, ASF, PCM, M4A or AIFF format. Notable exceptions include content that use the Apple Intermediate, Apple ProRes or GoToMeeting video codecs. We also do not support the uploading of content that is encrypted with DRM.
