Using JW Player Analytics

Your JW Player Dashboard comes complete with an analytics section, where you can monitor your content performance and look at activity by device, geography, engagement, and more.

If you use the embed code generated from the dashboard, your information will appear automatically. If you are using a more custom embedding method, be sure to follow our embedding instructions to make sure that your analytics information is accurate.

In addition to the Analytics Overview the dashboard provides access to more advanced analytics, including real time analytics and segmented reports.

Note: If you're seeing 'no data' in your JW Player analytics, and your content is not hosted with JW Player, be sure you've followed the instructions for registering your external URLs to get Media IDs. You also may need to adjust the date range for a period in which you received views!

Analytics in the Dashboard

The Analytics Overview page is designed to provide an at-a-glance summary of your video performance. All data corresponds to the date range selected using the date picker in the top-right corner.

The hero visualizations at the top of the page provide a high level overview of Monetization (Plays vs Ad Impressions), Engagement (Plays vs Completes) and Conversions (Plays vs Embeds). If you have Advanced Analytics you can click through to explore these metrics in more detail, and refine your query to gain additional insight.

The Top Content section offers a summary of the top performing content for the date range you've supplied. Clicking on any of the thumbnails will allow you to see more detailed engagement analytics for that individual video.

Note: If you're seeing 'Content Unavailable' in the Top Content section it might mean that the video has since been deleted, or that the Analytics are attributed to a different property. Click here to learn more about properties.

Top Countries provides a list of the top countries that are generating plays. Clicking through on any country will allow you to dive deeper into the cities within that country.

Top Devices shows a pie chart including the breakdown of device types (Desktop, Phone, Tablet). If we are unable to identify what kind of device generated plays, they will fall under the category "Other".

Top Domains includes all of the top domains where your video players accrue views. Clicking through on any domain will allow you to explore the pages within those domains.

You can also download a summary of analytics metrics (embeds, plays, completes, and uniques) information via CSV by clicking the download button next to the date picker. See the table below for definitions of each of metric and dimension that appears throughout JW Player's Analytics products.
